Masters
Who is Sri Sathya Sai Baba?
If spiritual discovery is your calling, He is the ultimate divine master. If you apply a rational approach to get answers, He is the greatest, most wonderful humanitarian on Earth. To the youngest of us who are starting the beautiful journey of life, He is the leader with a dynamic vision, and an unending source of inspiration. For every devotee, He is the symbol of divinity Who has taken a human form. And to everyone who has been immensely blessed to be in His presence, He is Pure Love Walking on Two Feet.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s followers look up to Him as the supreme spiritual teacher. They invoke Him through many names – Sathya Sai Baba, Sai Baba, Swami, Bhagavan, and Baba.
To know Sri Sathya Sai Baba, no two followers have to come from the same community or practice the same belief. They gather often to chant devotional songs, learn His teachings, and serve others as a way to practice His message of Love and Peace to unite humanity.

23 November 1926 – 24 April 2011
On 23 November 1926, in the village of Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh (South India), Sathyanarayana Raju,
Who will later be known as Sri Sathya Sai Baba, was born.
He was unlike other children, because of His strong inclination towards spirituality. His peers and fellow villagers called Him ‘Guru’ and ‘Brahmajnani’ (knower of Brahman or Godhead).
20 October 1940 was an eventful day, the day He declared His Avatarhood, (Avatar – Divinity Incarnate).
His message is – to bring about the spiritual regeneration of humanity by demonstrating and teaching the highest principles of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love, and Non-violence.
Saying this, Sri Sathya Sai Baba set out on His divine mission.
If you ask Him whether he is God, He answers: “Yes, I am God and so are you. The only difference between you and I is that while I am aware of this fact, you are not.”
“I have come not to disturb or destroy any faith, but to confirm each in his own faith, so that the Christian becomes a better Christian; the Muslim, a better Muslim; and the Hindu, a better Hindu.”
Sri Sathya Sai Baba teaches that a human being’s basic nature is divine and that the purpose of life is the realisation of this divinity. This will occur, He says, by leading a moral life, by rendering selfless service to those in need, by engaging in devotional practices and by developing love, respect and compassion for all life. As one strives to transform his or her worldly life of self-centred desires and attachments into a higher spiritual life of selflessness and devotion, the foundation is built for receiving God’s Grace. It is this Grace which will reveal our true nature to each of us.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba does not insist on us withdrawing from the world and becoming a sage. Rather, the world is our school, The Five Human Values (Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love, and Non-violence) are our curriculum, and the realisation of the unity of Godliness in the diversity of Creation is our ultimate lesson.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba inspires His devotees by setting an example that service to humanity is equal to service to God. Free hospitals, schools, colleges, drinking-water supply projects, housing projects, and disaster relief operations are among the many services He provided for those in need.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba regards selfless service to those in need as the highest means for enhancing one’s own spiritual growth and development.
He also teaches that while we serve others, it is important to maintain the right attitude – of humility and appreciation for the chance to offer our service. If we do not think about how good our deeds are, our ego will reduce.
We regard Sri Sathya Sai Baba as a living presence, Who inspires and guides us. And those who knew Him, sense divinity in their hearts.
